Annual Pink & Green Weekend Coming in May


May 11-13 The 1st Annual Pink & Green Weekend

Spring and Mother's Day is the inspiration of the Pink & Green Weekend in Edgartown. There will be many events including the 1st Annual Pink & Green Ball 12th. The ball cost $75.00, Hors d'eouvres, cash bar, dancing with a live band -the Sultans of Swing!  This might be a great time for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha to make this weekend a time to visit the island.

The Vineyard Haven Library is hosting slave songs and spirituals with Sparky and Rhonda Rucker 4/22/12



The Vineyard Haven Library is hosting slave songs and spirituals with Sparky and Rhonda Rucker on Sunday, April 22nd at 2 pm

Rhonda and Sparky will sing slave songs and spirituals and while accompanying themselves with finger style picking and bottleneck blues guitar, harmonica, old-time banjo, piano, spoons, and bones.  They will weave American history, especially African-American history, including slavery, the Underground Railroad and the Civil War into their, traditional storytelling, and humor into their concert. They have been featured tellers at the International Storytelling Center and Festival, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and on NPR's On Point.

The Reel Blues Fest May 12


The Reel Blues Fest: Jonathan Edwards, Kate Taylor, James Montgomery and Bruce Marshall live in Falmouth just a ferry ride from Martha’s Vineyard.

Blues and Jazz are know as the only original American art form.  Its origins came from southern slaves and grew and winded its way to the music now loved by millions around the world.

The Reel Blues Fest: Jonathan Edwards, Kate Taylor, James Montgomery and Bruce Marshall is a chance to listen to the Blues and lend a hand to older musician. According to the Reel Blues website “The Reel Blues Fest, Inc. sponsors musical and film events from its base in New England and seeks entities and individuals who may need assistance such as older musicians who did not have financial or medical support through their careers and filmmakers and educational entities which need funding to promote the art and craft of filmmaking.”
