FRESH BREAD ON MARTHA"S VINEYARD

For fresh baked breads and treats visit Rickard’s Bakery.  The bakery is a hidden delicious gem! Located in a building that looks like a warehouse on  114 Cook Road in Vineyard Haven, this bakery will make your mouth water and your dinner table sing.  It is a little hard to find, but worth the trip. Look for a small sign on
State Road, Vineyard Haven by a red barn. Follow sign posts behind the barn to the bakery.

The Larrier House is a two-minute drive to Rickard’s Bakery and two local grocery stores.

BACK DOOR DONUTS

My friend Robin W. could not stop talking about the apple fritter she had last summer at Back Door Doughnuts, located at 5 Post Office Square in Oak Bluffs.  The bakery is open not only during normally business hours, but nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.! According to her, a close second are the fritters found at the Black Dog.

In the summer the Black Dog has other baked goods that will satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. Facebook the Larrier House and let us know what treats you like at the Black Dog.

MOVIE THEATERS ON MARTHA’S VINEYARD

There are four movie theaters on Martha’s Vineyard (two stay open year around).
I prefer the Capawock, located in Vineyard Haven.  All theaters show first-run movie releases, however the Capawock has an interior that is reminiscent of a 1950's movie theater. It will make anyone nostalgic for a simpler time.

The Larrier House is just a 10 minute walk to the movie theater.

ONE OF THE LARRIER HOUSES FAVORITE MV THINGS

The Cape Pouge Light House Tour, run by the Trustees of the Reservation, is the best way to see some of the pristine beaches, breath takings estuaries, rolling waves, and wild birds of Chappaquiddick Island, commonly called Chappy. The tour has two pick-up locations and begins with an open truck guided tour of the part of the island that leads to the Cape Pouge Light House. The light house holds a vast amount of history and tour participants are given a chance to climb the light house steps and take in the views from its catwalk.

The Trustees also offer glass boat kayaks for rent, a variety of nature tours and a Japanese style garden - Mytoi.

Simply go to Edgartown and take the Chappy Ferry. The ferry ride is less than a minute and there is a fee to cross. A Trustees of the Reservation van will pick you up from the Chappy Ferry and drive you to Mytoi Garden. There you will board an open air truck and your 1.5 hour adventure begins.  You may also drive your own car across for a fee and meet the tour van at the garden or a nearby beach. Getting to Chappy with your car can be a snap or a test of patience deepening on the time of year you visit.

After a relaxing day at the beach, those who stay at the Larrier house can enjoy the oversize backyard and recount their adventures.
