Good eats for a good cause- Meals in the Meadow

The Larrier House loves this organization -the Farm institute located on Martha’s Vineyard  and the fundraiser Meals in the Meadow in July.  The ticket  price may be a bit steep for most, but it is worth it. For more information go to  http://www.farminstitute.org/

THE TABERNACLE - MOVIES AND SINGING

The Tabernacle, located in Oak Bluffs, is a wrought iron and wood octagonal, no walls cupola that seats 3,000.  The upper most portion of the structure has stained glass. The Tabernacle hosts interdenominational Sunday services, special events, Grand Illumination night, movies and community sings.  I never miss a Community sing and everyone should try to attend at least one illumination night.

The Community Sings are held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays during July and August and open to all. Song books containing various types of music are given to attendees.  The singing efforts are led by Director Bob Cleasby.  You don’t have to be a great or even good singer.  The sing is just a time to get together and have some fun.  On any particular Wednesday you could end up singing with over 100 other people.

The Tabernacle also hosts a family movie series.  Selected Monday evening movies are shown.  I have seen everything from Alfred Hitchcock films to cartoons.

The Larrier House has a piano for visitors to play. Visit the Larrier House on Facebook and tell us about your musical experiences on Martha's Vineyard.

THE BITE

Fried and fabulous! The Bite is a little shack in Menemsha on
29 Basin Road.  It is, as my friend says, expensive goodness. Everything that is produced from the shack is fried and good.  My favorite is the coconut shrimp.  The Bite servers fish platters, fish sandwiches, fried clams and other tasty treats.

What is you favorite fried treat? Visit the Larrier House on Facebook and weigh in (pun intended!).

BIRTHDAY SUITS

Did you know that Martha’s Vineyard has a nude beach?  If you want to sun in your birthday suit, go to Moshup Beach at Gay Head Point and walk away from the entrance.

If you do what most tourist do and visit the red cliffs of Aquinnah, be careful when you post your pictures on Facebook.   One vacationer (who always stays at the Larrier House) took beautiful pictures of the cliffs and herself looking off into the ocean.  She posted the photos on Facebook only to find out two days later via email from a friend that there were two naked people in the background of her photos!  When the picture was blown up and posted, their naked bodies were very visible!

LARRIER HOUSE LOBSTER FACTS

Lobsters produce eggs (7,000 to 80,000) that are extruded and carried under the female's abdomen during a 9 to 11 month incubation period. The eggs hatch during late spring or early summer. Lobsters molt approximately 20 times (in 5 to 8 years) before reaching minimum legal size.
