My Journey, My Africa written for www.africa.com

During my lifetime and throughout my career I have been blessed to have traveled and lectured in the South Pacific, throughout Europe, and Asia. Additionally, I have visited 48 out of 50 states in America and the majority of United States territories. All of my travels hold a special memory and place in my heart, but none touch the breathtaking sites and history I found while traveling through the continent of Africa.

My first trip to Africa was to Egypt. Maybe because it was my first introduction to the continent or maybe it was the awe-inspiring history, good food, friendly people and pleasant weather, but Egypt still remains my most memorable African travel experience.

While cruising down the Nile I was lulled to sleep by the sound of waves lapping rhythmically against the bow of my boat; waves that came from a river that carried fertile soil to farms and quenched the thirst of people for thousands of years. I found intellectual stimulation in Cairo when I participated in and attended lectures on topics such as the world economics, culture and trade. I still cannot shake the memory of the taste of one of the best beef dinners I have ever eaten --fresh, delicious prepared on an open flame. The architecture including pyramids, temples and ancient buildings made of stone and, in some cases sitting on riverbanks or adorning the sandy landscape of a desert, all resonate an echo of a time that refuses to be forgotten by the world or me.
