FIRE WORKS IN AUGUST-A MEMORY

Every August Oak Bluffs is the location of a large fireworks display.  There is live music played from a gazebo located at Ocean Park followed by fireworks after dark.

I had the most perfect “non-date” night last summer at the fireworks show in Oak Bluffs. I call it a non-date because even though my companion was charming and handsome, there was no romantic interest on either of our parts.  Despite this, the night was still fun and magical.  The evening began with friends, drinks and conversation on a porch in Oak Bluffs.  As dusk turned into night, my companion and I left the comfort of the porch and walked by the moonlight towards the firework site, passing cocktail parties and picnic dinners along the way to the main viewing site.  The site is usually was filled with people on blankets waiting for the nighttime spectacle.

As we approached our destination – the Norton House on Ocean Park, there were women in causal outfits, men in khakis and kids running with sparklers; a picture so Americana it was surreal.  As one of the many homeowners on Ocean Park, the Norton’s generously host an annual private party the night of the fireworks and provide all guests with dinner and limited bar.  As the fireworks display began, my companion and I found a set of Adirondack chairs and gazed into the sky.  Afterwards we went to Ben & Bills for ice cream.
